MBTA, Animal Rescue League of Boston to Transform Park Street into “Bark Street” on October 29

In support of October as Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, the MBTA in partnership with the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) today announced that Park Street Station will be transformed into “Bark Street Station” on Thursday, October 29, from 4 PM to 6 PM for an afternoon of four-legged fun.

“Whether you're passing through on your commute or stopping by specifically for the event, come celebrate our furry friends with us!” said Interim Secretary of Transportation and MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng. “This partnership is a great opportunity to provide a little fun to our community of riders while also supporting the incredible work of the Animal Rescue League of Boston. We thank them for partnering with us on this station transformation, and invite everyone to Bark Street on October 29!”

“Every animal deserves a loving home, and Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is an important reminder of the many wonderful animals waiting for their second chance,” said Dr. Edward Schettino, President and CEO of the Animal Rescue League of Boston. “We are thrilled to partner with the MBTA to bring Bark Street Station to life and connect with the community in such a fun and unique way. Whether you’re a daily commuter or stopping by to say hi, we hope this event inspires more people to consider adoption and discover the many ways they can make a difference in the lives of animals in need.”

Outside Park Street this Thursday, riders and the public are invited to meet and interact with special canine guests (including those previously adopted through ARL), learn about animals seeking their forever homes, and discover ways to support ARL through adoption, fostering, volunteering, and more.

MetroWest K-9 Services, the Burlington Police Department, Berklee College of Music Police Department, Northeastern University Police Department, and Boston K9 LLC will also have therapy dogs onsite to interact with riders.

The Bark Street transformation is part of the MBTA’s year-long celebration leading up to the 130th anniversary of America’s first subway, which opened in 1897. Other celebratory efforts include special historical social media videos being released throughout the year, which can be found on:

About The Animal Rescue League of Boston

Pets are family. This belief is at the heart of everything the Animal Rescue League of Boston does. ARL is the first female-founded animal welfare organization in Massachusetts and is proud to carry on a legacy of kindness and compassion, helping more than 20,000 animals annually since 1899. Recognized for innovative, award-winning programs that go beyond sheltering, ARL addresses the root causes of the issues facing animals and the people who love them. By partnering with communities, ARL helps animals heal and thrive, keeps pets and people together, and protects animals from harm. Because there is no government funding for this important work, animals must rely on people like you to get the care they need, when they need it most, 365 days a year.
