Biden finishes phase of radiation therapy for prostate cancer
Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, shared a video on social media capturing her father ringing a silver bell alongside a doctor at a radiation oncology center in Philadelphia.
“Rung the Bell!” Ashley wrote in an Instagram story. “Thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at Penn Medicine. We are so grateful!"
In oncology care, the act of ringing the bell signifies an important milestone in a patient’s treatment journey, celebrating the completion of a particular phase and acknowledging the progress made.
Ashley also posted a photo showing Biden with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, and two of their grandchildren.
"Dad has been so damn brave throughout his treatment. Grateful," she added.
Earlier reports confirmed that Biden had begun radiation therapy earlier this month as a component of his prostate cancer treatment plan.
Biden, 82, was diagnosed in May with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, according to statements from his office.
He is scheduled to deliver remarks in Boston on Sunday, where he will receive a lifetime achievement award at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute.
